At Center Stage Performing Arts Academy, we offer a wide variety of classes so that you are able to find exactly what it is that you are looking for. Several classes are offered in the areas of dance, theatre, voice, and fitness. Below you will find all of the courses that are available, plus a brief description of each one.

All Center Stage Performing Arts Academy dance students will be enrolled in core classes. These core classes will meet weekly and continue throughout the school year. Additional dance classes may be taken throughout the week using a class card. Tuition for classes may be found on the current class offering sheet. Class card fees will also be listed. Some performance fees may apply. See current class offering sheet for details.

- A Moving Experience: This 45 minute class encourages free movement for pre-schoolers aged 3 and 4. In preparation for structured dance; music, rhythm and games are used to help students become more aware of their bodies abilities to move, reach, jump and leap. The class will focus on building personal growth and confidence, as well as giving students a solid background to begin structured training. This is a core class and class cards may not be used.
- Combination Classes: These hour long classes are designed to work with the beginning dancer, aged 5 through approximately 11. Introduction in basic techniques of ballet, tap and jazz will be presented and developed. These are core classes and class cards may not be used.
- Ballet: Ballet classes are offered from Level I through Level IV. These core classes are designed for the dancer with experience and training. Stimulating level work will be done in technique, including barre, center, across the floor, and vocabulary. Training will include essentials of dance technique, while students build confidence and poise. There are both core classes and class card sessions available.
- Pointe: Pointe classes are leveled from beginning through advanced. These classes focus on ballet technique, including barre, center and across the floor. Classical variations, turns and leaps are studied. Students must be at 12 years old to begin pointe training.

Tap: Tap classes are offered from Level I through Level IV. These core classes are designed for the dancer with experience and training. Various styles of tap are studied including Broadway, funk, street and standard. Focus is placed on technique and vocabulary. There are both core classes and class card sessions available.

Jazz: Jazz classes are offered from Level I through Level IV. These core classes are designed for the dancer with experience and training. Various styles of jazz are studied including Broadway, hip hop, funk, and others. There are both core classes and class card sessions available.

Hip Hop: These classes are open to students looking for additional training and class time. The focus is directed strictly to hip hop style dance. Various levels are available. Class cards may be used.

Modern: These classes are open to the older student and focus on various styles of modern dance. This is an excellent compliment to ballet training. Modern dance builds strength and enriches any dancers training. Class cards may be used.

Improvisation: This class will work the process of improvisation, concentration and focus. Students will study preliminaries, time, space, and movement invention. A must do for all dancers and actors. Class cards may be used.

Ballroom: A variety of different classes to cover all types of ballroom dancing including salsa, swing, foxtrot, rumba, cha-cha, and tango. Couple sign up is great, but not mandatory. Singles are welcome.

Dance History: This class discusses the beginnings of dance and the evolution of each discipline. This is a great class for dancers to build their knowledge, expertise and understanding of their passion. This is a core class and class cards may not be used.

Choreography: This class will offer a study in how to make a dance. Students will approach the creation of choreography from different aspects and focus on structure, concept and formations. This is a core class and class cards may not be used.

Let's Get Together: This class offers a chance for parent and toddler to bend, stretch, play and sing. Games, music and one on one time with your child make this great. This is a core class and class cards may not be used.

Baby and Me: This class offers a chance for mom or dad or any loved one to spend some quality time with the baby, while also getting a good stretching workout. Get out of the house, relax and enjoy! This is a core class and class cards may not be used.

Acting for Dancers: This class teaches fundamental acting skills to the dancer. Applying skills in breath control, gesture, posture and movement studies will help the dancer learn to create a character on stage that will enhance their dance abilities. This is a core class and class cards may not be used.

Movement for Musical Theatre: This is a basic fundamental class which studies ballet, tap and jazz. This class is designed for the non-dancer who wishes to improve their confidence when performing musical theatre. Class cards may be used.

Show Choir Dance Technique: This class is designed for the student who wishes to be involved in or is a part of show choir. Students who have no dance experience will learn basic dance techniques and movement while building confidence and poise. Class cards may be used.

Leaps and Turns: This class will focus completely on a variety of leaps and turns, and will make the trained dancer stronger and more successful in this area. Class cards may be used.

Contact Improvisation: This class is designed for the more advanced dancer. The class will explore weight sharing, contact and lifting. Students will discover ways to expand their dance technique and abilities while building strength and confidence. Class cards may be used.

Dance for Adults: This class will consist of ballet, tap and jazz technique for the adult dancer. Students will learn fundamentals and basics in each of these areas, and performance opportunities will be available. Class cards may be used.

- Imagination Station: This class will include dramatic play and exploration of creative theatrics for pre-schoolers. Students will participate in theatre games, story-telling, puppetry, and character creation.
- All Around the Theatre: This class is an introduction of theatre for young actors. Activities will include improvisation, acting, movement, voice, and performance.
- Acting Up: This class offers the young actor a more intense study of acting skills including story-telling, reading with expression and the interpretation of stories through voice and movement.
- Acting I: This is a beginning class for acting methods. Students will learn acting skills through the art of character building, interpretation of scripts, and the discipline of mind, body and voice.
- Acting II: This class is for the advanced acting student. Students will do more intensive studies in acting skills and performance.
- Movement for Actors: This class is a study of body awareness and breath control for the advanced student. Students will learn to use their entire body when acting. Time will be spent on the art of creating a physical score for a character.
- Improvisation I: This class uses games and exercises to teach the skills of improvisation. These skills will hone the abilities of the actor and make them a better performer.
- Improvisation II: This class is for the more advanced actor and uses games and exercises to teach the skills of improvisation. Improvisation I or equivalent experience is a pre-requisite.
- Puppetry: This class will train students in the art of manipulating puppets, as well as the art of character building for puppets. Students will create a full performance.
- Technical Theatre I: This class is an introduction to set design and construction. Students will learn basics of stagecraft.
- Technical Theatre II: This is an applied course which will allow students to help design and work on current Center Stage productions. Technical Theatre I or equivalent experience is a pre-requisite to this class.
- Behind the Mask: This class is for the young student and teaches the fundamentals of mask work. Students will study posture, gesture, and the building of character through physical movement. Students will make their own masks and work with them in class.
- Mask Work: For the advanced student, this class delves into the physicality and creation of character through masks. Students will make their own masks and learn the art of creating a physical score for a character.
- Lighting I: This class will introduce students to the basics of lighting design. Knowledge of instruments, light board and gels will be covered.
- Lighting II: This is an applied course which will allow students to help design and work on current Center Stage productions. Lighting I or equivalent experience is a pre-requisite to this class.
- Stage Managing: This class is designed to train the student in the art of stage management. Students will learn the responsibilities of stage managers, how to create a prompt script, and how to call a show. Once students complete this course they may apply to stage manage Center Stage productions.
- Make-Up Design: This class will study the fundamentals of make-up and hair design. Students will learn how to apply age make-up, how to create specific characters and the proper use of color and application. Upon completion of this class students may apply to design for Center Stage productions.
- Costume Design: This class will train students in the art of costume design and construction. Upon completion of this class students may apply to design and create for Center Stage productions.
- Theatre History: This class discusses the beginnings and evolution of theatre. This is a great class for actors to build their knowledge, expertise and understanding of their passion.
- Playwriting: This class will help the student establish an understanding of what it takes to write dialogue, create a character and form a plot for a stage production. Written works may be submitted for production consideration.
- Directing: Students will study basics in directing techniques, personnel management, human relations, script analysis, blocking, conceptual design, and general management. Acting I, Acting II and Movement or equivalent experience are pre-requisites.
- Performance: Performances will be scheduled throughout the year. Full scale productions of straight plays and musicals will be performed. Students must have taken, or currently be taking, a class from the theatre curriculum to apply for performance opportunities.

- Voice Class: These classes are designed for the young singer and will be established by age. Students will learn fundamentals of music and rhythm, as well as and understanding of how to use their voice to sing properly and project. Both ensemble and solo work is included.
- Private Voice: Private lessons are available for students who are 12 years old and up. Lessons will be one half hour and can be set up by calling the Center Stage office.
- Master classes will be offered by guest professionals throughout the year. Special workshops will also be given. Theses classes and workshops may involve any of our performance and technical areas. Be sure to watch for notices on these opportunities.
